OUR TEACHERS – Our highly effective teachers have many years of
teaching experience. All of our staff is specially trained in the
student-centered approach to learning that we employ, by a Master Teacher who
has had 20 years of highly successful teaching in public and private education.
As a staff we collaborate and consult with each other frequently about the
student’s progress and the effectiveness of techniques that have been selected.
We know that one size does NOT fit all, and two heads ARE better than one! We
tailor your instruction closely to your goals and needs. Our teachers are
active performers who maintain a level of skill on their instrument that is
required of a professional. They thoroughly understand how to bring a
musician to performance level. They can always demonstrate what they
teach!

OUR TEACHING
APPROACH - our approach is student-centered and we have many effective
strategies to help you build on your personal strengths and transform your
weaknesses. We adapt the pace and content of instruction to your effort and
progress. We help you to play in a healthy manner by teaching you
habits of playing that encourage anatomically correct motion and avoid
unnecessary tension, reducing physical stress.
Playing without tension prevents
injury and increases stamina. Our approach to teaching addresses the whole
musician, from the development of small muscle coordination to the expansion
of musical understanding. Reading music notation, ear training, and concepts
of harmony are always included in the lessons. Music is a language that we
will help you to understand and speak with others. |
| OUR EDUCATIONAL
SERVICES – we offer classroom-based learning in all areas of music according
to the needs and desires of our students. Class offerings include: Music
Reading & Fundamentals, Music History, Music Theory & the Study of Harmony,
Conducting & Score Study, and Composition. Violin Master Classes and Chamber
Music coaching are offered to advanced performers. |

OUR MATERIALS
- We draw from many traditions of instrumental music teaching. We have
training in European methods dating back to the 17th century, the
recent Japanese method of Suzuki, and the new American Classical method created
by Mark O’Connor. These materials allow you to experience and enjoy music
making across all genres and styles: classical, celtic, blues, latin, jazz,
country, gypsy and more. All musical traditions are appreciated and
enjoyed at RIM. Our materials are challenging so that you can make appropriate
progress. We don’t “dumb it down” ; we take your desire to learn
seriously, and we give you all the challenging repertoire and skills that you
need in order to be successful.
Our goal is to
empower you in mastering a difficult instrument, so that you can enjoy creating
beauty. We focus on developing your playing skills with technical studies, and
on growing your musical understanding and expression with appealing and
motivating songs and pieces. We have a full scope and sequence of both
technique and great and inspiring musical pieces for performance. We have an
arsenal of practice techniques that make you an efficient and effective learner.
Each of us has used these strategies successfully to solve playing problems – we
understand what we teach.

OUR ENSEMBLES -
From the very beginning, our students participate in making music with others.
From “Boil ‘Em Cabbage Down” variations to themes from Dvorak’s New World
Symphony, we have great fun, build skills, and stay motivated in small group
ensembles, such as our Fiddle Discovery Club for beginners. Beginning
private students who pay a month in advance for their lessons get to participate
in the Fiddle Discovery Club for FREE! More advanced students can
participate in chamber music groups or a chamber orchestra.
